About Micrea Ltd
Founded in 2017, Micrea Ltd has evolved from a research startup into a fully equipped R&D facility and pilot plant in Jedburgh, Scotland. We specialize in accelerating the journey from concept to industrial-scale practice using energy-efficient, microwave-based processes.
Innovative, Low-Energy Solutions
- Graphene from Low-Quality Sources: Developing scalable routes for producing graphene from recycled or low-grade carbon. Our microwave process uses less energy and fewer steps than conventional techniques.
- Biochar from Novel Feedstocks: Efficiently converting agricultural and waste biomass into biochar, minimizing emissions and energy usage compared to traditional pyrolysis.
- Proteins from Plant Waste: Extracting proteins from grass and residues, creating new food and feed ingredients with minimal energy input.
- Waste-to-Energy Conversion: Microwave-assisted methods to transform agricultural waste into valuable energy products, cutting process complexity and maximizing resource recovery.
Our technologies focus on the removal of conventional, resource-intensive process steps, enabling industries to lower their carbon footprint and move closer to Net Zero.
Leadership and Mission: Micrea Ltd is led by Philip Duggan, with expertise spanning circular economy R&D, process engineering, and global project management. We are committed to training the next generation of scientists and engineers for a more sustainable world.
